Suunto Data Migration & Two-Way Sync: Connect with Garmin, Strava & More
Why Suunto Users Need Cross-Platform Sync
Suunto makes excellent hardware with a refined Suunto App ecosystem. But many users work across multiple platforms:
- Strava: The go-to for cycling and running social. Suunto has built-in Strava sync.
- Garmin Connect: Users who moved from Garmin to Suunto may want to keep their training history and daily activities in Garmin for continuity.
- Intervals.icu / TrainingPeaks: Deep analysis platforms that need full power and heart rate data.
Suunto App has a built-in Strava connection, but doesn't connect to Garmin, Intervals.icu, and other platforms. GarSync, as an authorized Suunto developer partner, fills these gaps.
Three Common Scenarios
Scenario 1: Suunto User Wanting Data in Garmin Connect
Bind your Suunto account in GarSync, create a sync task: Source = Suunto → Target = Garmin Connect. Every Suunto-recorded activity auto-pushes to your Garmin account. Historical activities can also be batch-migrated.
Scenario 2: Switching to Suunto from Another Brand
If you previously used Garmin, COROS, or Polar, GarSync can migrate your entire history to Suunto App. Your new watch starts with a complete training history from day one.
Scenario 3: Suunto + Another Device
Some users run a Suunto watch alongside a Garmin bike computer. GarSync consolidates both data streams into one platform (like Intervals.icu) for unified analysis, with no interference between the two sources.
Setup
- Add your Suunto account in GarSync's Account Management with one-tap OAuth.
- Create a sync task: choose Suunto as source or target, select data types (Activities, Routes, etc.).
- Enable "Sync History" if you want to migrate past activities.
FAQ
Q: Suunto already syncs to Strava. Why would I need GarSync?
A: Suunto's built-in Strava connection is great for Suunto → Strava one-way push. GarSync extends this to cross-brand, multi-platform data flow — Garmin, Intervals.icu, and 35+ others. If you only need Strava, the built-in is enough. If you need more platforms, GarSync is the complement.
Q: What is GarSync's relationship with Suunto?
A: GarSync is an authorized Suunto developer partner. All data sync goes through Suunto's official API, in compliance with developer agreements and privacy standards.
Q: Will migrated activities trigger VO2max and Training Status in Garmin?
A: Yes. Enable FIT device ID rewriting in the Suunto → Garmin sync task settings. This replaces the Suunto device ID with a Garmin device ID in the FIT file, so Garmin Connect treats the activity as Garmin-device-recorded. VO2max, Training Status, and Training Load will update normally. See our Zwift/MyWhoosh sync guide for details on device ID rewriting.
