Sync Zwift & MyWhoosh to Garmin Connect: Fix Training Status & VO2max Updates
Why MyWhoosh Activities Don't Update Garmin Training Metrics
Garmin Connect uses an allowlist: only activities from Garmin-certified devices or certified third-party apps contribute to Training Status, VO2max, and Training Load calculations.
Zwift is a Garmin-certified partner — activities sync normally and are fully recognized. But MyWhoosh isn't on Garmin's certification list, so:
- The activity appears in Garmin Connect — you can see it
- But the ride's power and heart rate data don't count toward training load
- VO2max and Training Status won't update based on this activity
If you train primarily on MyWhoosh, your Garmin data panel will show stagnant or declining fitness — not because you're getting slower, but because the data isn't being counted.
GarSync's Solution: FIT Device ID Rewrite
GarSync provides a key capability in the sync pipeline: FIT device identifier rewriting.
- MyWhoosh generates FIT files with its own device ID in the metadata.
- GarSync rewrites this to a Garmin device ID (e.g., Garmin Edge or Forerunner series) before uploading.
- Garmin Connect now sees it as a Garmin-device activity and updates Training Status, VO2max, and Training Load normally.
Only the FIT metadata is modified — your actual power, heart rate, cadence, and speed data remain untouched.
How to Configure
When creating a MyWhoosh → Garmin sync task, enable FIT Data Repair in the task options and whitelist your MyWhoosh account for device ID rewriting. Each subsequent sync will auto-apply the fix.
For Zwift users, this is usually unnecessary (Zwift is already Garmin-certified). But if you want all your rides to appear under a unified Garmin device name, you can enable it selectively.
FAQ
Q: Does rewriting the device ID change my actual ride data?
A: No. Only the device type field changes (e.g., MyWhoosh → Garmin Edge). Power, heart rate, cadence, speed, and all other data remain exactly as recorded.
Q: Do I need this for Zwift?
A: Usually not. Zwift is already Garmin-certified. But you can optionally enable it if you want unified device display across all your rides.
Q: Does this affect Strava?
A: Yes. Strava also reads the device identifier from FIT files. After rewriting, Strava shows the rewritten device name — typically a positive change, since Strava has better compatibility with Garmin device data.
Q: Is this the same feature as GCJ-02 coordinate correction?
A: Both are part of GarSync's FIT Data Repair. You configure them per account: enable coordinate correction for Magene, device ID rewrite for MyWhoosh — independently, no conflicts.
