A Training Day with GarSync
I slept well last night — before bed, I turned on GarSync's sleep aid and chose the rain sound. Drifted into deep sleep quickly. Woke up naturally this morning, feeling fully recharged.
After emptying out, it's the most accurate moment of the day to weigh in. I opened the Mi Home app on my iPhone, stepped onto my smart scale — weight and BMI synced to Apple Health automatically. Then opened GarSync, one tap to push weight to Garmin Connect and Intervals.icu. The denominator of W/kg has to be right, every day.
Next, a glance at GarSync's Today page. The weather card at the top: sunny, air quality excellent. A tip from the app: "Great for outdoor sports, but high temperature today — watch out for heatstroke." Yeah, summer isn't kind to runners, but 6:00–9:00 AM is still fine for cycling.
Put on my kit, ate a banana, rolled my Giant TCR out the door.
The Training Plan
Four weeks ago, I set myself a goal: take on the Chengdu Greenway loop solo and go sub-3 — 96.5 km with 625 m of elevation gain, under three hours. For a 53-year-old, that's a real challenge.
I used GarSync's AI to generate a 16-week training plan. Every Sunday night, the AI adjusts the next week's schedule based on last week's execution and TSB deviation — that's the PDCA loop: Plan → Do → Check → Adjust. Here's my weekly layout:
| Day | Workout |
|---|---|
| Mon | Active recovery, absorbing last week's fatigue |
| Tue | High-intensity intervals (speed / VO2max) |
| Wed | Easy Z2 aerobic buffer |
| Thu | Threshold / tempo work |
| Fri | Light recovery, pre-weekend prep |
| Sat | Weekly peak — LSD long ride |
| Sun | Complete rest, recharge |
Today is Thursday — 2 × 20 min threshold intervals.
The Ride
Before heading out, I always start both my Garmin 965 and my Blackbird bike computer at the same time — dual recording, just in case one device drops data. Then I ride to my training ground — Chengdu Racecourse. Morning temps at 27–29°C. Two 20-minute threshold efforts, heart rate pushed into Zone 4, speed holding at 35–37 km/h. Legs burning, breathing heavy, jersey soaked through. That's threshold training — brutal on willpower, but the most effective way to raise FTP. Workout done, ride home.
Back home, stop both devices. Open Garmin Connect and the Blackbird app to sync data from devices to their servers.
Then open GarSync — it auto-fetched the new activity from Garmin and Blackbird's servers. A prompt popped up: "Great job! Training complete! Well done! Share to GarSync feed?" I tapped yes.
Next, the Sync page. I set up a reusable sync task days ago: Garmin China → Strava / Intervals.icu. One tap, and today's threshold session is on Strava and Intervals.icu.
Data Review
Tapped into the new activity in GarSync. First, the overview — GPS track, total distance, average power, heart rate zone distribution. GarSync auto-detected this as a threshold workout (from IF and power data) and gave me aerobic and anaerobic training effect scores.
I took a screenshot, posted it to the Jincheng Lake cycling group chat. It's an unspoken ritual among us riders — finish a session, share it, hype each other up. Good vibes.
On the activity detail page, I tapped "Poster," picked a preset template, chose a photo — a poster generated in seconds. No editing, no Photoshop, super convenient, saves so much time. Shared to WeChat Moments and Xiaohongshu.
Recovery
Back home, a bottle of protein shake to help muscle fiber repair. It was brutally hot today, sweated buckets — drank extra water.
Hung the TCR on the wall, took my Shiba Inu out for a walk. A gentle stroll is the best form of active recovery.
During the walk, I opened GarSync and browsed through the data. Training doesn't end when the workout ends — recovery and review are how you keep improving.
Checked the Weekly Summary — seeing the completed sessions lined up gives me a solid sense of accomplishment.
Checked the TSB (Training Stress Balance) curve — CTL (fitness), ATL (fatigue), TSB (form), three lines at a glance. TSB sitting in a healthy negative zone — training load is just right. Not too light (wouldn't improve), not too heavy (risk of injury). This curve is essential for me. It tells me whether I'm steadily building fitness, step by step.
AI Coach
Went back to today's threshold activity, tapped the "AI Coach" button. A few seconds later, the AI generated an analysis report — commentary on the session's training effect, plus suggestions for improvement.
Every time I read the AI coach's feedback, I learn something. Sometimes it's cycling training theory. Sometimes how to schedule workouts more intelligently. Sometimes how to recover better — or even how to improve my sleep. It doesn't just analyze data. It feels like a coach who actually knows me.
That's a day in my training life with GarSync. It's more than a sync tool — from weight management, weather forecasting, training plans, device recording, cross-platform sync, data analysis, AI coaching, to social sharing, it runs through every part of my sports life.
